Hi there! We are happy to use this great tool! Today, I tried to convince my colleague to use it as well. Unfortunately it seems as if his code was not found for the analysis. I guess it is due to the fact that the projects in his solution are not located in subfolders below his solution, but in a parallel subfolders. Is there a way to configure the path/scope of the analysis?

We're glad that you're actively using and recommending our tool :-) The reason for the behavior you encountered is actually the same as for work item #11115 (http://clonedetectivevs.codeplex.com/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=11115, Files not in the solution are included in the analysis), though the workaround for this one is easier:

1. Open Clone Explorer.

2. Click "Edit Solution Settings" (third button on toolbar, counted from left).

3. Enable custom clone detection.

4. In the property overrides section, change the value of property "solution.dir" from "$(SolutionDir)" to the actual root folder of your source files on disk or use a relative path like "$(SolutionDir)\..".

The analysis will include all C# source files located under the specified directory, hence this should work for you (but it also includes files that are not part of any project in the solution). Please let us know if it doesn't or you need any further help!

After installing this addin (this happened to another friend of mine too) when I reopened visual studio all settings are lost. It took me 5 minutes of waiting with the message "Microsoft Visual Studio is configuring the environment for first time use". Then I found all configuration resetted.

Hi.
CloneDetective prevents TeamFoundation PowerTools (October 2008 Release at least) from installing. When I had CloneDetective and tried to install tfpt I got an error from msi:

Unstalling CloneDetective fixes issue.

See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/228997/aspmvc-beta-install-problems for details - I have verified it on Windows 2008 Enterprise Server x64, Visual Studio 2008 sp1. If I have CD installed, the ASP.NET MVC install fails; when I uninstall CD, it proceeds (I do not have Visual Basic installed, nor did I install it to get MVC happy).

Hi, this is another instance of the "VS crashes during installation" bug #11119 (http://clonedetectivevs.codeplex.com/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=11119). Fortunately it'll be fixed with the same check-in :-)

Hi,

unfortunately the current extensibility story of VS is bad (will be much better in VS 2010). Currently each extension vendor needs to run the command "devenv /setup" as part of the extension setup. Custom settings and configuration being reset happens when Visual Studio crashes during that run.

In this case a strange and undocumented behavior of VS caused the IDE to crash during setup which in turn led to the problem you've experienced. It's essentially the same bug as #11119 (http://clonedetectivevs.codeplex.com/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=11119).

Hi
There is a bug in your number parsers.

Specifically, when Regional Settings have a "Decimal Symbol" set to something else then "." (dot) Clone Detective fails to run analysis.

On the screenshot BugErrorMessage.PNG you'll see error message that pops up;
On BugRegionalSettings.PNG screenshot you'll see my regional settings with highlighted parameter "Decimal Symbol". When I change it to "." (dot) instead of my culture's default "," everything goes fine.

Also I'm attaching log file.

Note: it most likely that you need to replace all your parsers with code that looks something like this:

CultureInfo ci = (CultureInfo)CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Clone();
ci.NumberFormat.CurrencyDecimalSeparator = ".";
avarage = double.Parse("0.0",NumberStyles.Any,ci);

Or use InvariantCulture which always has "." symbol as Decimal Symbol.

When I click the Run button in the Clone Explorer, it errors with the error message "Input string was not in a correct format". Clicking the "Failed" text reveals the following exception:

I think this is a locale related issue - after playing around with the system regional settings, I had a space for the digit grouping symbol. Changing this to a comma removed the error.

Closed Issue: Clone Detective crashes Visual Studio If the CQA file is moved.

I setup Clone Detective to use a custom settings file then moved the CQA file to another location.

When i tried to open the custom settings dialogue box to point to the moved CQA file Clone Detective crashed Visual Studio.

I had to copy the CQA file back to the original location before i could open the settings to select the new location.

Closed Issue: '"devenv.exe" exited with code1.' during build

VSTS2008 V9.0.21022.8 RTM dies with above error when CloneDetective.Package is built.
The other two build fine.
When it dies. it asks to send notice to MS, and to restart Visual Studio.
But VS does not actually die.
I can send the MS error message if it would help.
Any ideas on what is causing this?

Closed Issue: The clone detective on runs on one of my projects in my solution

In my solution I have multiple projects, some are normal c# code libs and some are web.application projects. I have tried to chage what project is set to "start project" but it still only runs on one project.
I have had to create a single solution for each project to be able to run it on all my projects. I downloaded the version as of 25th june 09.

I just installed Clone Detective, and when I click Run Clone Detective I get the following message box (after ~10 seconds).

"Clone Detective did not produce a clone report. Please review the log file."

What's the problem here?

What is the status of this issue? I am receiving the same error, and increasing the stack size has no effect. I ran successfully a few months ago, but when I tried it now (after significant change), it will not run.

Commented Feature: Ability to filter certain files/projects from consideration (e.g. Unit tests)

Our unit tests generally follow a similar pattern wherever possible in order to make them easy to read. I don't want these classes visible in our results. Our solution has tests in dedicated projects, but some developers place the tests in the same project.

I would be happy with a file name exclusion filter "*Test" and/or project name exclusion "*.Tests".

When using WPF, there are many auto-generated files with names like '*.g.cs'.
These I would like to be skipped in the analysis as well. The name-based exclusion filter would be perfect to reach this goal.
